Exploring Encaustic Workshop - Sunday January 11, 2026
Come learn and create a unique piece of Encaustic Art!
Encaustic paintings are made of fused layers of a beeswax, tree resin and pigment mixture. Each piece is unique and students are encouraged to explore the use of color and transparency. Using the variety of colored pigments, and if desired, the use of objects like dried flowers, laser photocopies of clip art or drawings you’ll create a multi-media painting. This workshop is an introduction to encaustic showing you basic techniques from start to finish. I invite you to play with the medium and explore texture and color!
Date and time: Sunday, January 11, 2026 • 9:30am–1:00pm
Nancy’s studio: Portsmouth, NH
Cost: $110
Your “canvas” - a birch plywood panel is included as well as all other supplies needed to create your artwork.
The studio is fully stocked with the items noted, but if you have something you’d like to use or try out, bring it along. These items include: carbon based (laser printed/no inkjet) photo copies of clip art, drawings, fully dried leaves or flowers, stencils and more.
A few things to note:
• Bring a beverage.
• Dress accordingly – this is a warm art! We use pancake griddles to keep the wax fluid and heat guns to fuse the wax. Optional items: an apron (I do have a couple) and gloves if you wish to protect your hands and clothing.
Looking forward to sharing this fun medium with you!
This item is for 1 attendee. Workshop limit of 4 students.
